Hong Kong: A Convention, A Stroll, and The Happiest…

Travel dates: July 4-10, 2012
I will never forget this first.

There was a convention open for us Senior year students that is going to be held overseas. Kind of a drat, since it’s in the middle of  a semester, and I just did try if I could just squeeze in an extra-curricular activity in just a week, since it’s an opportunity to go overseas and to attend that coveted convention. I was blessed enough to even ride the plane for the first time ever.

Hong Kong International Airport
In this trip, I was with a couple of my aunts and uncles. By just riding the plane by itself, I’m kind of a bit excited and scared at the same time. I even vaguely remember the feeling of turbulence up there. Neat. The Hong Kong International Airport itself is amazing, coming from a Filipina who had the first time of going outside the borders of my own country. I remember my thoughts while strolling this amazing place: what if our airport back home could be also situated by the bay like this? It could be done, I strongly believe so.

It has been a gloomy day as we go to our respective hotels.

One thing that captivates me is the streets. An organized chaos, I suppose, it’s what I could describe it. The streets of Hong Kong has some kind of chaos, a beautiful chaos that could be felt at the seams of every road.

Skyscrapers inland, condominiums and apartments on the mountain top.

The city reeks of Asian and British culture, and it feels like I’m in the best of both worlds.

There is something serene during nights like these. Even though city lights are polluting, night life seems to be bursting with energy, and it’s a fine time to also see the culture during dark. But yeah, we just strolled the streets, with nothing in particular in mind of where to go.

Let’s not forget the better way to experience a place the most: through the stomach.

Not much of a fan to Chinese food, so we’ve juggled through steaks and fried chicken through most of our stay. And coffee of course. Can’t get through the day without it.

Enough of the sites. The core reason of why I did go to this trip is of course the Asian Conference of Clinical Pharmacy. It was nice to see that there are many advances in my profession, many people who never get tired of innovation and discovery and many people who aren’t afraid of developing the art and science of pharmacy. There were many things I learned and many things that are yet in the process of discovery that are discussed in different sessions during this convention.

Lastly, the place where we wouldn’t possibly forget is the “Happiest Place on Earth”. Disneyland! Yep,I was an 18 year old who still get excited for amusement parks. It’s lovely indeed though, I really do felt like a kid.

Even after all this time, I’d still want to go back and experience the other sides of Hong Kong. I guess it’s not bad to go at the same place twice. Maybe if I finished going all over the world, then I’ll go back to them. Twice.
